Defining Obstructions & How to Troubleshoot
At BKE, we define an obstruction as anything we “need” to complete bookkeeping but do not currently have access to. Obstructions delay your books from being finalized.
🚩 Types of Obstructions in Insight
There are four main types of obstructions you will see in BKE Insight:
- Secondary Security Needed
- A two-factor code or security question is required to access one of your accounts.
- Invalid Login
- A login has changed or expired, preventing us from accessing your accounts.
- Client-Provided Document
- We are waiting on a document (e.g., bank statement, invoice, or report) that only you can provide.
- Other
- A more general obstruction, most often tied to needing QuickBooks Online (QBO) access.
🛠️ How to Resolve Obstructions
- Nightly Emails
- You’ll receive an email from BKE whenever an obstruction is identified.
- Each email includes clear, step-by-step instructions to resolve the issue.
- Quick Calls
- Some issues (like secondary security or login resets) may require a brief call.
- Schedule directly through the “Your Team” button in the BKE Insight Portal with your Documents Manager.
- Insight Communications
- Many issues can be handled through secure messaging in Insight.
- Follow the directions in the nightly obstruction emails.
✅ Best Practice: Eliminate Obstructions Altogether
The most effective way to reduce obstructions is by granting BKE the direct access we need:
- Provide our team with unique logins whenever possible.
- This eliminates security interruptions, reduces delays, and makes bookkeeping much more efficient.
⏱️ Remember: The faster obstructions are resolved, the faster your books are completed.
